The Epic 7-Month Transit of Mars in Gemini

Mars moves into Gemini today and will be there for 7 MONTHS. This is completely atypical, and is happening because Mars goes retrograde in the middle of this transit (prolonging its stay in Gemini). Mars' full journey through Gemini lasts from August 20, 2022 - March 25, 2023, while the retrograde period is from October 30 - January 12.

Mars in the planet of action, passion, aggression, and sexuality. It’s effectively the divine masculine of the solar system (Venus represents the divine feminine) and rules our ability to get things done, initiate, and move forward.

Gemini is a mutable air sign which is constantly changing and embodies multiple states of being at once. This air energy shifts our focus to communication and mental energy for the next several months.
 

This can mean fast-paced ideas, lots of inspiration, ever-changing hobbies and activities, and quick communication.
 

Mars also represents the warrior archetype and tends to get hot under the collar quite easily. If it’s not kept in check, this can result in tense exchanges, bursts of anger, impulsive communication, and verbal fights. This Mars transit will also be the transit where any repressed or unspoken anger comes up and OUT.

While this can feel intense at times, ultimately this pushes us to say what we need to say and express the emotions that may have been hidden or buried within. This can be a very healthy thing overall, and will be encouraging even the most timid of us to speak our minds and fully own our feelings.

Mars' fire ramps up quickly and can easily blaze out of control, so this is a good thing to be aware of when we're feeling angry or communicating from a place of aggression or rage.

If you feel your emotions getting ready to bubble over, it may be helpful to release some of this anger in a healthy way (through exercise, music, screaming into a pillow — whatever works for you) before trying to communicate with others about it.

Remember — we're all experiencing this transit at once, so tensions can build quickly, especially if both people have emotions that are running high.
 

Thoughts and words will be flowing like wildfire during this time. This can be amazing, inspiring, and incredibly productive if channeled effectively. It can also feel incredibly overwhelming if you find yourself fighting against the current or resisting the changes that are coming up.
 

This is an important time to pay attention to how you’re expressing yourself. While it can be easy to speak without thinking, some thoughts may come out differently than intended and create misunderstandings or tension if not communicated clearly.

It’s also important to check in with yourself before agreeing to something or committing yourself verbally. We are bound to change our minds a lot during this time period, which can result in broken agreements and promises if we commit ourselves to something too quickly.
 

Our focus will be rapidly shifting (especially around what we feel compelled to take action on) so it can be helpful to be aware of this, both for ourselves and others.
 

The beauty of Gemini energy is its flexibility, fast-paced nature, quick wit and fluid embodiment of duality. Gemini energy is not afraid to pivot, to shift directions, or to change itself entirely overnight.

This same energy can create frustration if we expect Gemini to be consistent or not to flow with every shift of the breeze.

We will be experiencing this transit for a long haul, so this gives us the opportunity to play with this energy and get comfortable with inconsistency, with not knowing, and with following the wind where it takes us with new aspirations and ideas.

This is the time to embrace our adaptability, explore different ideas, and allow ourselves to change with the moment.

Mars only goes retrograde every ~2 years so this is not a transit we experience all the time.

This transit will see many of us making big shifts in our day-to-day focus, career, hobbies, or projects we’re working on. We may discover entirely new passions and decide to run with them out of the blue, because we suddenly receive an insight or burst of inspiration that allows us to break free of old paradigms we’ve acted within before.

This experience has so much to offer us if we’re able to let go of control, trust our instincts, and roll with the changes that present themselves.

All that being said, I’m excited to see what comes of this transit!! It will affect each of us differently according to our individual placements within our natal chart + how much we’ve learned to work with our own energy.

For example, I’m a Capricorn Mars (which looooooves grounded consistency) so I can see this taking me way out of my comfort zone.
